Project: Architect to Plan Swimming Pool Work
School: Sutton At Hone C of E School (DA4)
The Brief
The school had initially engaged LA architects, but as the costs escalated, it became clear that the planning phase was becoming prohibitively expensive. Costs needed to be reduced while not compromising the quality of the planning. Due to the specialist nature of the work an architect with specific experience of pools and pump related engineering works was going to be required There were multiple key stakeholders including LA and private donors and the normal raft of internal governance.
- Multiple Stakeholders
- Requirement For a Reduction In Cost
- Specialised Supplier Required
The Approach
To deliver this project we needed to work with the school to develop a specification to ensure we attracted companies who could quote cost effectively. We needed to source a contractor with not only the specialist technical experience but also who had the experience of working with multiple stakeholders. We were able to choose from our extensive list of suitable candidates and selected the perfect firm who could lead and develop the project. As we had worked with the firm on over 50 projects with schools previously, we were able to negotiate a price within budget while taking on some management of the project ourselves to reduce the cost further.
- Focus on Specification to Drive Cost Down
- Specialist Supplier Used
- Management of Project Included
The Outcome
The project was completed, and costs were reduced. The architects had the required experience of pools and pumps so were able to do the whole project without having to engage additional contractors. This ensured that everything was completed ahead of schedule and without going over budget. The plans were completed so that a building contractor was able to start work with a clear plan.
- Project Completed Ahead of Schedule
- Costs Reduced
- No Need to Engage Additional Consultants
