Project: Access Project
School: St Saviour’s & St Olave’s School (SE1)
The Brief
The school commissioned us to source a company who could take on a large summer project to install a new access system. Due to the size and complexity of the project, it was a stipulation that the supplier has significant experience with projects of this size and scale. The project was further complicated by a programme of major construction works being completed across the site over the summer break. Finally, there was a small window to find and appoint a supplier because other schedules needed to be agreed first.
- Tight Timeframe
- Experienced Supplier Required
- Complex Programme of Works
The Approach
We work with a number of suppliers who specialise in modern access systems for schools. Our search focussed on a supplier who would be comfortable working on a site where there are multiple other projects. Fortunately, we had the perfect solution – a supplier we’ve worked with on over 60 projects was available to quote for the work. Alongside their extensive experience in schools, they were very comfortable working on sites with multiple contracts; their clients include multi-billion pound businesses and government institutions so we knew the project wouldn’t pose them any technical issues.
To find a supplier of this quality for a school project is rare but the supplier trusts us to find and manage their projects, so they are happy to work with our school clients. On behalf of the school, we negotiated a realistic price with the contractor, and the work was scheduled.
During the project, the other construction work meant that the access project had to be delayed and the new timeframe was quickly established with the supplier. We worked closely with the school and contractor to manage this potential problem, so both parties were very happy with the outcome – our relationship with the supplier was vital here because we asked them to make considerable re-arrangements.

- New Timeframe Negotiated With Supplier
The Outcome
The new timeline was met within the parameters we set, and the project was completed without additional cost. The Access system met the specification, and when the school had questions after the install, we were on hand to ensure that they got all the necessary support required from the supplier. We were pleased that a complex project was delivered on budget and that changes in the project timeline could be absorbed into the schedule.
