Project: Architecture
School: St Catholic’s Primary School (E17)
The Brief
The school needed to change architects mid-project and tasked us with finding a supplier who had the necessary experience and capacity to take on a project midway through. The original plans and permissions needed to be changed, and a fresh plan and permission had to be delivered. The re-scoping had to be completed in a tight timeframe and within a pre-set budget.
The outcomes for the school were critical – they need to deliver a learning space which had adequate square meterage to house a pre-agreed number of new nursery pupils without compromising the current school capacity and operational effectiveness.
- Change Of Architects Mid Project
- New Architectural Plans Required
- New Planning Permission Required
Our Approach
We needed to provide an architectural firm who understood the dynamics of working in a school setting and had the experience of working with a range of stakeholders (SLT, governors, diocese and the new nursey team). We approached a reliable contractor we have worked with on over 30 projects. They were able to put a process in place which completely recalibrated the plan and ensured planning permission was successful.
This process entailed a major deviation from the plan – the appointed architects saw an opportunity to approach the project in a different way which involved a side extension rather than adding an additional floor. We were available to the school throughout the process to help them navigate this change in direction and ensure they were comfortable.
The supplier we provided was exceptional – they worked tirelessly to draw up new plans in a quick timeframe, ensure that everyone was happy with the project and that the planning process was successful.
- Experienced Firm Hired
- New Optimal Ideas Generated
- Planning Permission Achieved
The Outcome
The new plans were accepted by key stakeholders, and the vision shown by the architects delivered a better outcome for the project. This drastic change was only possible because of the professionalism, experience and vision of the architects we appointed. The planning permission was agreed in time to appoint a reputable building contractor to complete the works.
