Project: Groundworks for Pavilion
School: Christchurch New Malden Primary School (KT3)
The Brief
Although they had successfully gained planning permission for a new pavilion, the school was coming to the end of the planning permission window. So to prevent having to reapply for permission again they needed to build foundations before the deadline expired. This needed to be priced and completed quickly with limited funds available. Furthermore, the work had to be done during term time, so the contractor needed all staff to be DBS checked.
- Tight Timeframe
- Keep Costs Down
- Contractor Needed to be DBS Checked
The Approach
With such a specific contractor required for the school, the depth of our contact list and strong personal relationships with suppliers were crucial. We initially helped the school to put together a specification so we could both get a clear idea on price and understanding of what was required. Using this as a foundation, we developed a thorough specification, a realistic price and schedule which complied with the planning permission. We also needed to develop new technical drawings due to certain factors being omitted from the original draft. Fortunately, we were able to select and convince a company who we had worked with on over 50 projects before to work on the project. The company we engaged had with in-house structural engineers, so it was easy to ensure compliance throughout the project.
- Assistance with Specification
- Specific Contractor Selected and Managed
- Revision of Original Draft
The Outcome
Despite tough conditions, the school were very pleased with the quick turnaround, and the foundations were delivered on time and within budget. If the planning permission deadline had expired, the entire project would have been delayed considerably. Within six weeks the initial foundations were completed, and the school were well set up to build the full pavilion.
- Project Delivered on Time
- No Need for Repeat Planning Permission
- Completed Within Budget
